Moh’kinstsis, Treaty 7 Territory
With deep love and respect for this land, we acknowledge the traditional territories and oral practices of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. This includes the Blackfoot Confederacy of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations; Tsuut’ina Nation; and the Îyârhe Nations of Chiniki, Goodstoney, and Bearspaw. Southern Alberta is also home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government: Métis Nation Battle River Territory – Calgary Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Calgary Elbow District 6. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.
Mahegun Tails Inc. operates within the City of Calgary, which is located on land adjacent to where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is “Moh'kinstsis”.
